Edna Padrick - Artist
December 1913 ~ May 2003
From the time her children were small, Edna took lessons in painting from various instructors, starting with Art Landy who had worked for Walter Lanz studios. Milford Zornes is also included in her list of instructors.
Edna became interested in resin work and took lessons from nationally known resin artist, Dewayne Valentine of Venice California. Her work gained her recognition as the artist who took resin art to a new level. When her girls were out on their own, Edna began taking art classes at Saddleback College. She transferred to Cal State University at Long Beach and at age 65, received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in painting and drawing. She continued to create art well into her 80s.
During her painting career, Edna honored many of her daughters teachers by inviting them home for dinner and often they left with a painting. The Padrick girls all have great smiles, having their braces paid for with paintings. Wedding gifts were always an opportunity for the newly married couple to pick out their first work of art from Ednas collection. Even at the celebration of her passing, friends and family left with a piece of her art.
Ednas art was shown in public collections at the Long Beach Church of Religious Science, Long Beach Pacific Hospital, Bellflowers May Thompson School and Sunflower Gardens Alzheimers facility.
Her work is currently in private collections across the US, in Canada and Japan. Ednas awards are numerous (four typed pages) that span from 1949 through 1988.
Her memberships included: Long Beach Art Association, Bellflower Art Association, Women Painters of the West, Los Angeles Art Association, Laguna Beach Art Association, Museum of Art, Whittier Art Association and South Gate Art Association.
Her media: Watercolor, Acrylic, Collage, Oil, Casein, Oil pastels, Polyester Resin on Fiberglass, Formed paintings. She sculpted with Polyester Resin and Styrofoam assemblages.
